"The Boat"...

Launched in 1989, this was my first attempt at boatbuilding. Technically not great, but lots of fun and it whet my appetite for greater (and more costly) things. We never gave her a name, hence "The Boat".

Grebe...

Construction started 1996; launched 1998.

This is a "Tammie Norrie" design from Iain Oughtred (Isle of Skye, Scotland). It is based on a medium size traditional workboat. She has good rowing performance, with one or two pairs of oars. I've rigged her with a single boomless lug sail, but she rows so nicely that I seldom use it.

Here she is being a houseboat tender on the Hawkesbury River...

and just pottering about on Lake Ginnindera in Canberra.

Skerry...

Construction started 2003; launched 2011; rigged 2016.

This is a Eun Mara design, again from Iain Oughtred. Skerry is a 6.1m double-ended yawl, with gaff-rigged main and mizzen sails. Auxilliary power is by a 2400 watt pod-mounted electric motor, which drives her along at around 4 knots.

Visit my construction blog for further information.

Here she's being used as a launch...

Here she is with the mizzen mast up and decked out for Canberra's 100th birthday celebrations on 11 March 2013...

Rigged (with a double reef) in January 2016...
